What's happened to the classic English phone booths? That's what I kept asking myself during my recent visit to England. I visited Leeds and York and could hardly find any. They had been replaced with modern looking -but much uglier- ones. And they were grey. Sad.
Are they replacing all of them? I guess that probably London is crawling with them, as it's probably the most touristic place in the country, but to foreigners like me these booths are an icon not only of London but the whole England.
Does anyone have a clue about what's happening with them? Is it the new politics of British Telecom to get rid of them? And if so, why?
